Course Description

In Printmedia and Drawing 6, students develop and undertake an individual project in consultation with academic staff. An innovative approach to the materials and processes of printmedia and /or drawing is encouraged. Experimentation with a range of formal issues, formats and installation strategies is expected. Experimental studio research informed by contemporary and/or historical precedents develops over the semester.  Critical reflection is further developed through discussion with staff and peers. Studio theory further consolidates each student's ability to articulate a contextual framework for their practice.   Students will develop, complete and exhibit a substantial body of work. Occupation Health and Safety instruction is included.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate skill in planning and execution of an independent project
  2. Develop, research and evaluate concepts and processes through creative, critical and reflective thinking
  3. Create a body of artwork suitable for exhibition
  4. Explain the concepts and techniques underpinning the works of art
  5. Demonstrate comprehensive awareness of historical, critical and theoretical contexts of your work
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) and Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
