| Course Description |
This intensive 4-week course will provide students with an introduction to Burmese, with emphasis on interactive use of the language in every day situations. There will also be an introduction to reading the Burmese script. The course will run during the Winter Session 24 June to 19 July 2013. |

Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but may expect more rigorous assessment and additional assignment work, tailored to the graduate student's interests. |

This course is for students who have not previously studied Burmese. |

It is recommended that students take the associated non-language course, ASIA2039 Burma/Myanmar: A Country in Crisis which is being offered in second semester. |

Burmese (Myanmar): An Introduction by John Okell. Text to be complemented by audio tapes, dictionaries, phrasebooks and grammars of Burmese, as well Burmese-language newspaper and newsmagazines. |
