| Course Description |
This course guides advanced students in extensive reading and in analysis and discussion of Chinese texts in a field of specialisation. It is suitbable for heritage learners or student who have completed the Year in China course and have an advanced level of proficiency in spoken and written Chinese. This course will enhance students' skills in translation to and from Chinese. The content of the course will be determined in the light of students' specific needs and the availability of teaching, and will prepare students for independent research in their field. |
| Learning Outcomes |
1. Acquire skills and knowledge to be able to read unabridged Chinese texts on current major issues relating to China and Australia and conduct in-depth analysis and translation. 2. Acquire two-way translation skills to a working level proficiency. 3. Attain knowledge of the social and cultural contexts necessary to translate Chinese texts into English, in the appropriate formal or informal register. |

One book review of 1000 words ((25%); (Learning outcomes 1, 3) one seminar presentation and related essay of 1000 words (30%); (Learning outcomes 1, 2, 3) one essay of 2000 words (50%) and classroom performance 10%. (Learning outcomes 1, 2, 3) |
