This course is an introduction to digital compositing with particular reference to its application to a variety of different creative arts practices such as video, painting, photography or printmedia. It introduces students to basic computer-based compositing techniques and processes in both video and still digital images. Students will be required to participate in technical programs and demonstrations aimed at developing understanding and proficiency in the use of compositing software and processes. Occupation Health and Safety instruction is included.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate creative control of techniques, technologies and equipment used in digital media
2. demonstrate the creative analysis and exploration of materials and processes currently employed in digital media
3. show a critical awareness and developed understanding of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to digital compositing
4. exploit the characteristics of materials and processes in an individual and conceptually developed way
5. demonstrate understanding of the importance of critical and self-reflective practice
6. identify and develop personal topics for individual research

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
