Course Description

The course consists of weekly projects, which introduce students to a range of skills and conceptual issues relevant to all visual arts disciplines, and provides a foundation for future specialised work. The course introduces students to the application of two-dimensional representation, dealing with issues such as the human form, the dynamics of colour, design, composition and pictorial space.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Show understanding of basic processes and material properties relevant to the discipline
  2. Apply a range of introductory technical skills
  3. Demonstrate creative exploration of materials
  4. Demonstrate observation and analytical skills in areas such as 2D and 3D form, colour, anatomical study and composition

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [Learning Outcomes 1-4]

Journal / documentation (10%) [Learning Outcomes 1, 3, 4]

Participation (10%) [Learning Outcomes 1-4]

Workload

5 contact hours per week. Students are expected to commit up to 5 hours of independent study per week for this course.
