Course Description

In Textiles Design 6, students develop and undertake an individual design project. Experimental studio research into the planning and manufacturing process will be informed by contemporary and/or historical precedents. Concept, research and development is progressed through critical evaluation with staff and peers. Studio theory consolidates each student's ability to articulate a contextual framework for their design practice. Students will develop, complete and exhibit a substantial body of work. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate skill in planning and execution of an independent design project
  2. Develop, research and evaluate design concepts and processes through creative, critical and reflective thinking
  3. Present ideas in a mode suitable for a range of audiences
  4. Work independently and/or collaboratively in response to the project’s demands
  5. Reflect on social and cultural issues and apply local and international perspectives to practices in the design arts
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [Learning Outcomes 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%) [Learning Outcomes 2, 3, 5]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
