ECHI8011 Classic Works of Economic Theory

Course Description

This course introduces the student to the analysis and appraisal of certain classic texts in the history of economics. These texts will be drawn from pre-classical, Classical, Neoclassical and modern eras in economics, giving students a familiarity with both different periods, and different approaches to fundamental problems.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the requirements for this course, students will be able to:
• Understand key models and concepts of the history of economic thought
• Understand scholarly articles concerned  the history of economic thought
• Produce appreciations of the history of economic thought texts
• Have a historical consciousness of economic ideas

Indicative Assessment
  • Examination - 70 marks
  • Essay - 20 marks
  • Seminar - 10 marks
  • Total - 100 marks

Eligibility

At least an average of 70% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree with introductory level courses in Statistics and Econometrics, and intermediate courses micro- and macro-economics.

Incompatibility

Students who have completed ECHI2005 are not allowed to take ECHI8011.
