| Course Description |
In this introductory course students begin to develop basic listening and reading comprehension, as well as oral and written Hindi communication skills. The course provides an introduction to the writing system of Hindi and basic Hindi grammar and training in language learning strategies. Students are introduced to life and cultures of the Hindi-speaking societies and principles of intercultural communication. |
| Learning Outcomes |
Upon successful completion of this course, students will: 1. have a good basic knowledge of the sound system and script of the Hindi language. 2. be able to produce and comprehend various types of simple sentences/ expressions. 3. be able to communicate in Hindi in situations involving every day life and limited topics. 4. have obtained some basic knowledge about Indian cultures and peoples. 5. have developed good self-study skills for Hindi language learning. 6. demonstrate generic skills, eg, critical thinking, written and oral communication, teamwork. |

Semester based testing 40%, written assignments 50% and class participation 10%. |
