Course Description

A combination of Indonesian language study and approved study in a discipline. This work will be undertaken in Indonesia under arrangements made between the ANU and an Indonesian university. For their first semester, students choose a combination of regular content courses and advanced language courses for foreigners. In their second semester, students attend initial lectures and seminars, then carry out a field research project on an approved topic, write a report based on it, and present an oral seminar on it.

Indicative Assessment

Students must satisfy requirements in both semesters in order to pass the course. For their first semester, they must complete and pass a minimum of 12 credit points of courses. For their second semester, their oral seminar presentation and written field report must be evaluated as satisfactory. The written field report is assessed independently by ANU after the student’s return to Australia.

Workload

Requires enrolment for two semesters, totaling 48 units.

Eligibility

Available only to students majoring in Indonesian in the Bachelor of Asia Pacific Studies or the Bachelor of Languages.

Requisite Statement

Students who start their Indonesian at first year level need to have completed 4  courses in Indonesian language, as well as at least six courses in their contextual major. Selection will be based on a range of factors including academic record, demonstrated intellectual and emotional maturity, and ability to serve as a good ambassador for the ANU and the School of Culture, History and Languages.  As a rule, applicants must demonstrate a high credit average in courses completed as part of the Bachelor of Asia Pacific Studies or the Bachelor of Languages. A Distinction average in all Indonesian language courses is highly desirable. 

 

Students must pass both the school-level and the region-level selection processes before they are officially accepted into the program.
