Course Description

This course covers issues relating to the management of information and communication technology (ICT), important ICT infrastructure and systems, ICT strategic planning and the governance of ICT. Students will critically analyse and present ICT management issues in class.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the requirements for this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the value of information and communication technology (ICT) for economies, organizations and individuals;
  2. Analyse and justify ICT investment options, costs, benefits and plans;
  3. Describe data and network infrastructure and systems and analyse their impact on organizational performance;
  4. Explain issues with respect to IT security;
  5. Analyse and evaluate web, wireless and social media strategies for organizations;
  6. Understand enterprise level systems and their use;
  7. Describe how ICT systems are acquired and constructed and be able to construct simple business process models;
  8. Demonstrate a knowledge of strategic planning and governance for ICT;
  9. Understand ethical, legal, social and environmental issues associated with the use of ICT.

  • Mid-semester Examination 15%

  • Examination 60%
Workload

Students taking this course are expected to commit at least 10-12 hours a week to completing the work.

This will include:

  • Lecture and tutorials - 3 hours
  • Private study - 4 hours
  • Tutorial and assignment preparation - 4 hours
