Course Description

This intermediate refresher program works with the textbook Yookoso: Continuing with Contemporary Japanese (Chapters 6 & 7) and  its accompanying workbook. The course will review the following grammatical and functional points: more conditionals, causative passives, more respect, expressing concessions, expressing emotional involvement, uses of 'yo', expressing opinions and conclusions and, to learn to converse and understand Japanese on the topics. of 'comunication and media' and 'nature and culture'. Up to 885 Kanji studied.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the successful learner will:

  • Further develop the linguistic skills to a more complex upper - intermediate level understanding.
  • With a particular focus on their grammatical knowledge and aural skills, students will learn to better understand and participate in a variety of everyday situations in Japanese.   
  • Develop language-learning strategies to help students’ take charge of their own Japanese language learning.
  • Further consolidate grammatical and communicative understanding of upper intermediate Japanese and begin to develop functional skills at an intermediate level. 
  • Learn a variety of socio-cultural information useful to intermediate learners of Japanese.
  • Consolidate reading skills and develop familiarity with up to 885 kanji.

Workload

1.5 hours class room teaching per week and 1.5 of non contact hours.
