| Course Description |
A combination of Korean language study and approved study in a discipline. This work will be undertaken in Korea under arrangements made between the ANU and a Korean partner-university, selected in consultation with the Korean language program convener. Students will be required to write a research essay in English using approximately 50% Korean-language sources, a translation selected in consultation with the Korean language convener, and bi-weekly blog updates (in Korean). Students must also present and orally defend their research essay upon their return to the ANU. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Students will be required to show evidence of satisfactory progress at their Korean host institution. They must also pass the various components (their research essay, translation, and blog), and pass the oral defense of their research essay. Failure in any of these components will lead to failure in the Year in Korea program |
| Workload |
Requires enrolment for two semesters, totaling 48 units Indicative activity in Korea; Semester One 1.) Enrolment at Korean University - intensive language study; 12 units worth of language courses 2.) Set up a blog; update this twice weekly, uploading no less than a long paragraph of Korean text on your daily life. Semester Two 1.) Enrolment at Korean University - intensive language study; 12 units worth of language courses 2.) Plus; 1 x non-language course taught in Korean on a topic chosen in consultation with the Korean language convenor 3.) 1 research essay of 3,000 words, using a significant number of Korean language sources 4.) 1 translation of 3,000 words, from Korean into English, of atext chosen in consultation with the Korean language convenor 5.) Blog |

Available only to students majoring in Korean in the Bachelor of Asia Pacific Studies or the Bachelor of Languages. |
| Requisite Statement |
For single Bachelor degree programs, admission is based on successful completion of 16 College courses (96 units), including Korean language courses to a sufficient proficiency level, at an overall high credit average (65%) or better; and for combined degree programs, admission is based on successful completion of 12 College courses (72 units), at an overall high credit average (65%) or higher. NB: admission is never guaranteed and applications must be approved by all three authorities (see below) Pre-requisites mean, some students may be able to go in the third year of study, or after three and a half years of study; Special permission for Year in Asia in the fourth year.of study may be granted by the Undergraduate Program Convenor only in exceptional circumstances Students have the choice of two intake sessions for the Year in Korea, starting either at the beginning of the ANU year (usually February), or in Autumn (usually August). Students must pass both the school-level and the region-level selection processes before they are officially accepted into the program. |
