Course Description

This course allows students to complete a research paper of 15,000 words in length on a topic within the Law, Governance and Development stream. A student will first have achieved a 70% average across four courses (24 units). He/she will then develop a topic and find a suitable supervisor within the teaching staff of the program. The topic and supervisor will be approved by the stream convenor and the Director.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the student will have undertaken a limited but systematic study of an issue in the law of the student's own choosing but within the area of Law, Governance and Development and presented the results of that study in a written form which is accessible to an interested, but not necessarily informed, legal reader. The student will also have developed legal research and writing skills

Indicative Assessment

A 15,000 research paper on a topic related to an area with the Law, Governance and Development specialisation.

Workload

A student will be required to devote approximately 20 hours a week.

Requisite Statement

A student is required to have achieve a 70% average across four masters courses in the program. Departmental consent required.
