Course Description

This subject provides a general introduction to the issues in criminal justice ethics. Most of the chapters are concerned with the context and the influences that shape the ethical challenges that arise within different parts of the criminal justice system. It also provides a general introduction to the theories surrounding some common challenges in ethical conduct for criminal justice professionals.

Learning Outcomes

When successfully completed, students will have developed a good theoretical understanding both of central and current issues in Criminal Justice Ethics and of some key philosophical issues of importance to applied ethics more generally.

Indicative Assessment

Two 3,000 word essays (50% each)

Workload

This course is available for on-campus and off-campus (correspondence) students. On-campus students will meet with the Convener once a week to discuss readings and the conceptual materials gained by the reading materials. Alliance also has forums for discussion of class reading materials, which students will be expected to participate in. This is the best way for off-campus students to interact with the class.
