Course Description

The purpose of the of the “Looking forward, looking black” is to introduce students to the intercultural experiences of the Australian Indigenous Peoples and to develop their intellectual and academic skills  so that they may successfully undertake a program of higher learning at ANU.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the requirements for this course, students will be able to:

  • outcome 1:  Be able undertake individual research and to participate effectively in team based research
  • outcome 2: Be able to give a fifteen minute presentation on a selected topic covered by the “Looking forward, looking Black” program
  • outcome 3:  Be able to interpret standard presented statistics and apply them  in their research
  • outcome 4: Be able to write a 1000 to 1250 word essay on selected topic covered by the Looking forward, looking Black program.
Indicative Assessment

  

1. Presentations to class group each week

2. A personal journal

3. A 1250 words essay

Workload

Students will deveote 15 hours per week in face-to-face and out of class activities for the ten weeks of this course
