Course Description

A combination of intensive Thai language/ literature study and approved Thai University courses in a discipline. This work will be undertaken in Thailand under arrangements made between the ANU and a Thai university. Students will be required to write a research essay in Thai, the various interim components of which must be submitted over the course of the Year in Thailand.  Students must also pass an interview upon their return to the ANU

Indicative Assessment

Students will be required to show evidence of satisfactory progress at their host Thai iUniversity.  They must also pass the various components of their research essay and the return interview.  Failure in any of these components will lead to failure in the Year in Thailand program

 

 

Workload

Requires enrolment for two semesters, totaling 48 units.

Eligibility

Available only to students majoring in Thai in the Bachelor of Asia Pacific Studies or the Bachelor of Languages.

 

Requisite Statement

Students who start their Thai language studies with the ANU need to have completed at least 4 courses in their Thai Language major , and at least six courses in their contextual major. Selection will be based on a range of factors including academic record, demonstrated intellectual and emotional maturity, and ability to serve as a good ambassador for the ANU and the School of Culture, History and Languages.  As a rule, applicants must demonstrate a high credit average in courses completed as part of the Bachelor of Asia Pacific Studies or the Bachelor of Languages. A Distinction average in all Thai language courses is highly desirable. 

Students must pass both the school-level and the region-level selection processes before they are officially accepted into the program.
