The Master of Forestry offers a flexible program for advanced learning and professional qualification for those with undergraduate qualifications in forestry or the forest sciences, or those who have been working in forestry-related fields and wish to gain graduate-level qualifications in forestry or forest science. Master of Forestry graduates can expect to:

  • gain a high level of knowledge of specific subjects reflecting their interests, as well as a general knowledge of contemporary issues and challenges in forestry and forest science;
  • develop their independent learning, analytical and research skills, teamwork, and oral and written communication skills;
  • develop networks relevant to their academic and professional interests; and,
  • be better placed to respond to professional challenges and opportunities in their chosen careers.

The scope of the Master of Forestry is broad, reflecting the Australian National University's diversity and strength in the area of environment and resource management as well as in forestry and the forest sciences. The flexibility of course requirements for the degree allows programs to be structured to meet individual interests.  

The Master of Forestry is part of the National Forestry Masters Program.ANU graduate forestry students are encouraged to participate in the National Forestry Masters Program; for more information, visit the NFM website (www.forestry.org.au/masters).

Please note that all applicants for the Master of Forestry need to include two professional referee reports with their application.
