Course Description

The aim of the course is to provide students with a detailed understanding of a number of issues in visual and cognitive neuroscience. These topics will be presented by a number of researchers in these areas, from both the School of Psychology and the research schools. Topics that will be covered may include: detailed analysis of the various types of functional mapping techniques, and their application to the study of specific tasks and disorders; the biological basis of reading and dyslexia; processing and representation of faces; the role that eye movements play in visual processing and the neural implementation of that process; neuronal modelling and insect navigation. The class size will be kept small.

 

This is an Honours Pathway Course that involves material of a greater conceptual difficulty and research orientation than a typical Group B course.

Indicative Assessment

In 2006, assessment was a lab report (on research placement) (40%) and an exam (60%).

Workload One three-hour seminar per week plus associated laboratory activities and visits.

a Distinction or High Distinction in PSYC2007 or an equivalent perception or neuroscience course, and written approval from Head of School.
