Climate change is recognised as one of the critical challenges to the sustainability of human society and the environment, both in Australia and globally.  Expertise in the science and policy areas relevant to understanding climate change and its impacts, and to managing natural resources and both human and natural environments under global warming, is in demand in the private sector, at all levels of Australian government, and in research organisations.  This major offers the combination of a strong understanding of climate science with knowledge in environmental policy, economics, governance, law and modelling, underpinned by research-intensive courses and methods training - a combination that is essential to tackling the critical challenges in areas such as climate vulnerability and adaptation, water resource management and natural resource management under climate change.

Requirements

 

A minimum of 42 units of courses including:  EMSC1006 The Blue Planet, ENVS3020 Climate Change Science & Policy, and

a.   no more than 6 units from:

• ENVS1001 Resources Environment & Society;
• ENVS1003 Environment & Society Research Methods;
• ENVS1004 Australia's Environment; or
• STAT1003 Statistical Techniques

b.  at least 6 units from:

• ENVS2004 Weather, Climate & Fire;
• ENVS2007 Economics for the Environment;
• ENVS2014 Qualitative Research Methods for Sustainability; or
• SCOM2001 Practical Skills for Communicating Science

c.  at least 18 units from:

• ENVS3013 Climatology
• ENVS3028 Environmental Policy & Planning
• ENVS3001 Climate Change Science & Policy Field School
• ENVS3033 International Environmental Policy
