The Bachelor of Translation (Asia Region) program is designed to nurture linguistic and cultural sensitivity to an Asian country in order that effective communication may be assured. It offers students with a flair for language, the opportunity to immerse themselves in language studies. The student has the opportunity to develop fluent language skills, together with familiarity with the society in which that language is spoken.
To achieve this, the degree structure provides for intensive training in an Asian language (including a compulsory component, the Year-in-Asia) and targeted training in the language and culture of that country, through study of selected courses from predominantly existing offerings in the Faculty of Asian Studies and the Faculty of Arts.
Normal completion time for the degree is four years, including one year in Asia. The structure features an extended major in an Asian language or, an Asian language major and a further sequence of Asian language courses. Core courses in translation and cross-cultural communication are designed to achieve the disciplinary foundation of the program.
Translation Degree Disclaimer: This degree does not provide a professional translation qualification, but does provide an excellent grounding towards obtaining accreditation as a translator / interpreter.
Admission Requirements
Admission to all programs is on a competitive basis, taking into account all relevant academic qualifications. If you hold more than one qualification, admission will be based on your overall record. Tertiary qualifications are generally weighted more heavily than secondary. If you have completed an approved tertiary preparation course or alternative entry scheme, you will be assessed on the results of that scheme alone, unless you have undertaken subsequent study.
