This program is designed for students with an interest in applying economic ideas in the world of economic policy formation and evaluation. Graduates will understand the issues involved in the coordination of economic policies at national and international levels. Core components of the program include the analysis and evaluation of public policies from the perspective of companies and consumers and their effects on the welfare of society as a whole. Courses also cover analysis of the interaction between political and economic forces that determine monetary and fiscal policies set by governments.
A two-year full-time program, which incorporates the Graduate Diploma in Economic Policy, is available for students who do not have a strong academic background in economics.
Progression to a PhD is possible at the discretion of the PhD Convenor.
Admission Requirements
Direct entry to the Master of Economic Policy requires either:
- an Honours degree in economics at a level equivalent to an ANU Honours in Economics grade IIA, or
- completion of the Graduate Diploma in Economic Policy with an average grade of 70%, or
- 70% or greater in each of ECON8025 Diploma Microeconomics, ECON8013 Mathematical Techniques in Economics I, and EMET8005 Economic Models and Introductory Econometrics
