The Master of Diplomatic Studies is designed for students who have already completed a Master's degree with a distinction average within the last ten years in one of the following areas and who wish to study the theory and practice of diplomacy at the Masters level:-

International Affairs
Strategic Affairs
Middle Eastern & Central Asian Studies
Asia-Pacific Studies
Law/International Law
Public Policy
Diplomacy
Business
Another discipline in a subject area relevant to diplomacy

This program will be on offer from January 2009.

Prerequisites

Students are required to have a distinction average from a reputable Master's program in an Australian or of another university approved by the Delegated Authority for the purposes of this Program, being a degree of a kind that is an adequate qualification for the admission of the person as a student. Applicants for direct entry to the Master of Diplomatic Studies who already possess a Master's Degree (with a distinction average) in the following disciplines are eligible to apply:-

International Affairs
Strategic Affairs
Middle Eastern & Central Asian Studies
Asia-Pacific Studies
Law/International Law
Public Policy
Diplomacy
Business
Another discipline in a subject area relevant to diplomacy

Students must also have either:-

an IELTS overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component; or
A TOEFL score of 570 (paper based test) or 230 (new system) and a Test of Written English of 4.5

Prospective students will also need to comply with the Australian Government's English Proficiency requirements for a student visa. These vary from country to country and only the results of the IELTS test are acceptable from some countries.
