Master of Translation Studies
Degree Structure
Candidates are required to complete 72 units in two parts, each being 36 units.
In Part A the candidate is required to complete 36 units consisting of six, 6-unit courses of coursework. Of these, four are compulsory (see core list) and two are selected from the list of elective courses (see elective list).
In order to proceed from Part A to Part B a candidate must have passed each of the six courses at their first attempt and achieved an overall average equivalent of distinction (min. of 70%) or better.
Part B comprises a further 36 units and students will undertake one of three options:
Option 1: Completion of a sub-thesis of 30,000 words
Full-time students – LANG6021 Translation Sub-Thesis (18units x 2 semesters)
Part-time students – LANG6022 Translation Sub-Thesis (9units x 4 semesters)
Or
Option 2: Completion of the course Translation and Critical Commentary AND a sub-thesis of 15,000 words
Full-time students – LANG6017 Translation and Critical Commentary (18units x 1 semester) plus LANG6019 Translation Sub-Thesis – Intensive (18units x 1 semester)
Part-time students – LANG6018 Translation and Critical Commentary (9units x 2 semesters) plus LANG6020 Translation Sub-Thesis – Intensive (9units x 2 semesters)
Or
Option 3: A combination of coursework and translation or sub-thesis. A program of courses will be developed in consultation with individual students from the offerings for the Graduate Diploma in Translation Studies.
