The Master of Science (specialising in Earth Physics) is a graduate degree for students from all areas of the physical sciences. The degree is predominantly coursework and includes a research project. Students will learn about seismology, geodynamics, geodesy, geophysical fluid dynamics as well as receiving a broad exposure to exciting new areas of Earth Sciences.
The M. Sc. degree can be taken as a 1-year full-time degree. It can also be taken part-time,
preferably over two years (max 5 years).
Who can Apply?
The degree is open to all local and international students with an Honours degree in science, or equivalent. It prepares students for a career in the Earth sciences. This program is for those who are interested in post-graduate training in Earth Sciences which will lead to a professional career in science. It is also designed for students who have little or no undergraduate training in Earth Sciences. Students must complete 4 courses (representing 50% of the final mark) and a 6 month research project. Courses must include "Plate Tectonics and Mantle Dynamics", and three other courses offered within the program (see courses below). This graduate degree by coursework attracts fees.
