Degree Structure

  • 1 year (48 Unit) degree by coursework and research
  • It will include a research project of not less than 12 and not more than 18 units (EMSC8030)
  • It will include a compulsory course EMSC8031: "Research Methods in Earth Physics"
  • It will include a compulsory EMSC8016- Plate Tectonics and Mantle Dynamics
  • It will include a selection of of courses from the following courses, to complete the required 48 units.
    • EMSC8002- Seismology
    • EMSC8004 - Current topics in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics - A practical introduction
    • EMSC8009 - Melting Polar Ice Sheets, Sea Level Variations and Climate Change
    • EMSC8011 - Earth Materials: Crystal Structures, Defect Microstructures and Mechanical Behaviour
    • EMSC8012 - An introduction to inverse problems in the Earth Sciences
    • One of two on-line courses EMSC8013: Geophysical Continuum Mechanics - EMSC8015: Imaging the Earth
    • EMSC8014: Special Topics in Earth Science.
