| Course Description |
The overall aim of this course is to develop a critical focus on theoretical and methodological issues in anthropology and the social sciences, and to develop research skills. We will first look at the more general issues confronting the social sciences and their relationship to the natural sciences. Then we will examine the questions of whether anthropology is methodologically distinctive, and of what constitutes a problem in anthropology, and in the social sciences more generally. This will provide a platform for the examination of the central issue of how theory can be related to empirical material.
