| Course Description |
This is an intensive language study course undertaken at the French Institute (IFPO) in Damascus in Syria. It is a year long program which provides comprehensive, research orientated, linguistic training. This course will develop students' proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

On their return students will be required to show evidence of a satisfactory pass result in the 8 courses undertaken at the host institution. As well students will be required to give a 30 minute oral presentation in Arabic on the research project undertaken at the host institution. Academic transcripts as well as course description information will also be required to be submitted to the Arabic Coordinator. In the case of students who fail one or more courses, in consultation with the Arabic Coordinator, students may be required to enroll in subsequent Arabic courses upon their return to ANU. Subsidiary testing by the Arabic Coordinator may also be required. |
| Workload |
Students are required to enrol in 2 semesters totalling 48 units. Teaching comprises at least 15 hours per week which are divided into eleven hours of group sessions and four hours of individual tutorials. |

| Requisite Statement |
A high credit average (65-69%) result in all of the previous 7 (seven) Arabic courses undertaken, including Advanced Arabic B (ARAB3003) or Applied Arabic (ARAB2010) is needed along with a recommendation by the Arabic Convenor and approval by the Faculty of Asian Studies. |
