Course Description

This course aims to study Byzantine art, cultural institutions and patronage from AD 330 to AD 1204. Specific works of art and architecture ranging in provenance from Syria and Armenia to Constantinople and Sicily will be studied in the context of the society: theology and liturgy; politics and investment; court ceremony; and urban, provincial and monastic life.

Course Classification(s) SpecialistSpecialist courses are designed for students having reached 'first degree' level of assumed knowledge, which provide for the acquisition of specialist skills; or 'second degree' and higher level of knowledge; or for transition to research training programs; or knowledge associated with professional accreditation.
