The course consists of weekly projects which introduce students to a range of skills and conceptual issues relevant to all visual arts disciplines and provide a foundation for future specialised work. The course introduces students to the application of two-dimensional representation, dealing with issues such as the human form, the dynamics of colour, design, composition and pictorial space.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

1. Show understanding of basic processes and material properties relevant to the discipline
2. Apply a range of introductory technical skills
3. Demonstrate creative exploration of materials
4. Demonstrate observation and analytical skills in areas such as 2D and 3D form, colour, anatomical study and composition.
5. Show awareness of personal and shared responsibilities in relation to OH&S requirements and procedures.
