Course Description

In this course, students will write a thesis based on research topic of their choice in the field of Biological Anthropology in order to complete the Research component of the MBian(Research) program. The course is designed for students wanting to do in-depth research as a component  of their MBian studies as well as providing a preparatory opportunity for PhD studies. In collaboration with the Course Convenor and a nominated supervisor, students will choose a topic of interest to them and complete a research project based on this topic, which may include an option for limited field work. In the latter case, ethics clearance maybe required.  

A supervisor with knowledge or experience in the relevant field of study  will  be nominated, with whom the student is expected to schedule regular contact for  advice and support. The course program will involve the development of a research proposal, presentation of a seminar and the write-up of the project in a thesis of 20,000 words.

Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the course will gain the knowledge and skills to: 

• Design research activities, including identifying and reviewing relevant literature, developing research questions and identifying appropriate research methods; 

• Communicate research findings to relevant audiences in the form of a thesis;

Students will have completed the MBIAN prgram and received a minimum average of 70%
