Course Description	This course is designed to give students the opportunity to extend their practical experience in molecular marker techniques in the laboratory. The course is laboratory based and may include formal laboratory practical sessions that illustrate advanced molecular procedures, as well as a mini-research project in a research laboratory.
Learning Outcomes	On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to: 1. Conduct a molecular genetic analysis research project in the laboratory with minimal supervision 2. Analyse the outcomes of the laboratory research project, and compile, analyse and interpret data generated by this work in written and oral form 3. Search the literature to identify papers relevant to the laboratory project and distill, integrate and evaluate these finding in writing in relation to the outcomes of the project.
Indicative Assessment	Preparation of a report written in the format of a scientific paper based on the outcomes of the research project (100%; LO 1, 2, 3).

Eligibility	Bachelor of Science or equivalent with a major in the field of biological science with relevant experience or academic achievement. First year Biology, first year Genetics and first year Statistics are recommended. First year Chemistry is desirable
Requisite Statement	Completion of BIOL6004 and BIOL6006 This course must be taken in conjunction with BIOL8211
