| Course Description |
This is an upper level course designed to introduce advanced students to a range of key writings in the field of Taiwan Studies. |
| Learning Outcomes |
Understanding of key concepts and issues in the field of Taiwan Studies; to integrate this theoretical and historical knowledge; to learn to think critically; develop skills in synthesising and contextualising new information; develop skills to locate, analyse, evaluate and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources, both Western and Chinese; develop the ability to work in cooperative groups on key issues in this field of Chinese Studies and to communicate findings to others; to develop a life-long interest and intellectual curiousity in this area. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Two Translations (25% each); Major Essay (3000 words - 50%) |
| Workload |
Three hours of class contact required per week; out-of-class preparation of texts to be read and discussed in class; further fulfilment of assignment requirements. |
| Requisite Statement |
Modern Chinese 6 (CHIN3023) and Classical Chinese 2 (CHIN3031) or permission of the coordinator. Incompatible with ASIA6043. |

No specific Taiwan knowledge required, although students are recommended to take Taiwan: History and Culture (CHIN2072) before embarking upon this course. |
