This is an upper level Chinese language course designed to introduce advanced students to a range of key writings in traditional Chinese literature. The course serves three objectives.  First, it fills a need to provide a variety of upper intermediate and advanced language courses.  Second, it provides knowledge of key issues in traditional Chinese literature. Third, it provides training in reading representative styles of traditional Chinese literature.

On satisfying the requirements for this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to

• understand key concepts, styles and genres n Chinese Literature
• acquire a different cultural perspective from which to view oneself, one's culture and one's society
• integrate theoretical knowledge with empirical examples
• synthesize and contextualize new information
• analyse, evaluate and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources, both Western and Chinese

Students undertaking this course will be taught by leading international specialists in the field of Chinese literature in a small group or one-to-one learning context.

Students can expect to spend 10 hours of study per week on this course, inclusive of contact hours.
