| Course Description |
This course includes discussion of equity issues in educational planning and policymaking, measurement issues in education and labour force participation, the relation of education to the labour market, youth employment and labour force mobility. There is a special emphasis on differences in access to education according to socio-economic background and gender, including measurement of the economic contribution of informal economic activity, and patterns of male and female participation in the workforce. Although some basic economic concepts are utilised, prior study of economics is not required. The course draws examples from both developing and developed countries, including Australia, and participants are able to give special attention to topics or regions of interest to them. |
| Learning Outcomes | This course is designed to introduce participants to the role of education, human capital and labour force participation in national economic and social development. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Short reading assignment (20%), presentation on set topic (20%) and essay on topic of choice (60%). |
