Course Description

This course introduces students to precise drawing and model making through a series of weekly projects. By applying freehand, technical and perspective drawing, together with model making, students develop an awareness of the conventions of visual communication relevant to the Design Arts. We explore a variety of materials and their properties through processes relevant to two and three dimensional design and construction. The techniques used aim to develop accuracy and constructive imagination. Discussion and critical appraisal will be important adjuncts to observation, concept and practice development. Skill development and safe work practices are essential parts of the program.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  1. Show understanding of basic processes and material properties relevant to the discipline
  2. Apply a range of introductory technical skills
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in working with, and exploration of, relevant materials and processes
  4. Demonstrate observation and analytical skills in areas such as 2D and 3D representation, design and model making
  5. Show awareness of personal and shared responsibilities in O H & S requirements and procedures.
