| Course Description |
The aim of this 12 unit course is to prepare students for undertaking the thesis component of the Doctor of Diplomatic Studies (DDiplS) program.

| Learning Outcomes |
Following this course, students will have the academic skills required for completing a post graduate degree: these include skills for research, analysis, methodological awareness, argumentation and writing. |
| Indicative Assessment |
The course is worth 25% of the coursework component (which comprises 50% of the DDiplS). To achieve the DDiplS degree students must: achieve a pass grade minimum in the Diplomatic Doctoral Research Preparation course; and complete and pass each course in the coursework component. Essays will be worth 60% and exams, 40%. |
| Workload | Students undertaking this course could expect a workload of 20 hours per week. This is inclusive of actual contact hours for lectures and also out of class preparation time. |

Assumed Knowledge and Required Skills |
The course is based on the assumption that, since candidates require a Masters degree and extensive professional background to be eligible for entry to the program, they will mostly need to acquire a working knowledge of the methodologies required for conducting doctoral level research in diplomatic studies. |
