ECON8003 Economic Policy Issues

Course Description

This course will focus on contemporary policy issues in the Australian economy. The lectures will be delivered by Professor Gregory and experts within the ANU and by visitors drawn from government departments and other universities. The more important topics are taken from the following policy areas; the labour market, welfare, immigration, education and economic growth.

Learning Outcomes

A better appreciation of the analysis of economic policy issues from an economic,social, political and historical perspective.  The emphasis will be on real examples mainly drawn from the Australian economy and the emphasis will be mainly on economics .  There will be considerable class interaction during each two hour segment.

4 hrs (3-5 hrs additional hrs outside class time)

Course Classification(s) AdvancedAdvanced courses are designed for students having reached 'first degree' level of assumed knowledge, which provide a deep understanding of contemporary issues; or 'second degree' and higher levels of knowledge; or for transition to research training programs.

An honours degree in Economics with H2A or higher, or completion of a Graduate Diploma in Economics with an exit grade of Merit or better
