Course Description

A study of the major figures in Italian postwar cinema (Rossellini, De Sica, Antonioni, Visconti, Wertmuller, the Taviani brothers, Amelio) through a number of their most representative films.

Indicative Assessment

2,000-2,500 word essay (50%) and final exam (50%).

Workload A one-hour lecture, a one-hour tutorial and a screening per week.
Requisite Statement

(a) For students taking the course as part of the Film Studies major, Introduction to Film Studies FILM1002 and Intro to Film Genres FILM 1003.
(b)for students taking the course as part of the Italian major, Continuing 2 ITAL2006 or equivalent language competence (these students will discuss the films and do their written work for assessment in Italian);
(c)for students taking the course as part of the Contemporary Europe major, EURO1002 and EURO1003;
otherwise 12 first-year units in the Faculty of Arts
