Course Description

The objective of the course is to apply the basic concepts introduced in the core Finance course (FINM1001) to examine financial decisions facing the firm. We will discuss the structure of the firm's financing decision, considering the debt/equity choice, dividend policy, the type of security to issue, the method of issue and the estimation of the firm's cost of capital. The focus is on the impact of taxes, distress costs, stakeholder incentives and corporate strategy on the firm's financing decisions. Further, the valuation of potential investment opportunities is a critical part of corporate decision making.
