Course Description

This is an intensive course building on French language and culture acquired in FREN1004. The aim is to expand students' oral and aural skills as well as reading and writing skills. It is also to learn, and reflect on, different aspects of French culture and society through the introductory study of a variety of written and audio-visual material.

Learning Outcomes

The aim of this course is for students to move from a basic knowledge of French to more complex uses of the language in both written and oral expression. It is also to be introduced to readings in French and notably to the reading of youth literature as well as to the study, in French, of aspects of French history, culture and society using a range of audio and audio-visual materials such as film and documentary extracts and songs.

Indicative Assessment

Grammar (25%), culture (25%), reading (25%), oral (25%).

Workload

4 hours of classes per week
All new students with prior knowledge of French are required to contact the course coordinator before enrolling.
