| Course Description |
A study of German literature during the period 1770-1830, and in particular of its present reception. In addition, reference will be made to key works of art and music from the same era. Works by Goethe, Schiller, Lessing and others will be studied. |
| Learning Outcomes | At the end of this course students will have an understanding of the iconic cultural space occupied by Weimar classicism. |
| Indicative Assessment |
Classroom participation (10%), two essays of 1,500 words each worth 45%, the first due mid-semester, the second in lieu of an exam. |
| Workload |
2.5 hours of classes per week: a weekly lecture and tutorial, and a fortnightly seminar. |
