INDN8003 Indonesian Refresher C

Course Description

(a) building oral skills, especially the ability to discuss social/contemporary issues

(b) reading of texts and vocabulary extension

(c) listening comprehension practice

(d) developing accuracy through translation and grammar exercises

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able to: discuss a number of social/ contemporary issues with restricted but tolerable fluency and range of language, understand main ideas in short slightly simplified written texts with some vocabulary help, identify main ideas in short authentic listening texts with some guidance, and write simple passages on social/contemporary issues with reasonable accuracy and range of language.

Indicative Assessment

Two short in-class quizzes on core vocabulary from set reading texts (10%), one take-home short essay assignment (20%), one take-home translation assignment (15%), one take-home grammar assignment (10%), instructor’s ongoing assessment of class performance in Speaking & Listening activities,  (20%), one oral presentation in class (20%), attendance (5%)

Workload

• participation in a total of 15 hours of face-to- face classes

• 1.5 hours preparation (approx.) for each 1.5 hour long  session

• three take-home written assignments (2 x approx. 400 words and 1 x approx 250 words)

• one oral presentation in class (7-10 minutes length).

Course Classification(s) AdvancedAdvanced courses are designed for students having reached 'first degree' level of assumed knowledge, which provide a deep understanding of contemporary issues; or 'second degree' and higher levels of knowledge; or for transition to research training programs.
Requisite Statement

Participants should be currently employed as teachers of Indonesian in the ACT school system. Entry is by permission of coordinator. Students will normally have completed INDN8002 Indonesian Refresher B or have been assessed as suitable for entry by ACT Dept of Education and Training.

Not compatible with Indonesian 2A (INDN2002/6002) or Indonesian 2A In-Country (2004/6204)

Recommended Courses

Students are assumed to have studied Indonesian at post-secondary level and to have reached (although not necessarily to have maintained) a mid-intermediate level of proficiency; or to have completed INDN8002 Indonesian Refresher B.

Consent Required Consent is required prior to enrolling in this course.
