Course Description

The course aims to: (I) Provide a managerial and technical grounding in electronic business; (II) Expose the processes of developing online systems; (III) Provide a foundation for understanding e-business in the contemporary online context; and (IV) Provide an environment for developing effective knowledge acquisition skills.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students are expected to have attained a knowledge of or proficiency in the following areas:

  • Web engineering and its associated evaluation
  • E-Business models, infrastructure and software
  • The context in which e-business is conducted and be able to explain the likely impact of external forces on e-business outcomes
Indicative Assessment

Case Study Review, Critiques, and In-Class Presentation (Individual) – 20%

In-Class Discussion and Debate – 10%

Assignment 1 – Case Study (Individual) – 30%

Assignment 2 – Project (Group) – 40%

Total 100%

Workload

Teaching for this course is likely to be in the format of one 3 hour seminar per week; however, enrolment numbers may dictate that it be run differently. Students will also be expected to put in up to 5 hours of their own time outside of class focussing on individual research.

Eligibility

At least an average of 65% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree

Assumed Knowledge and
Required Skills

It will be assumed that students have undertaken a first course in information systems and are familiar with computerised systems in general as well as the use of the Windows PC operating system and standard office automation software.
