Course Description

This course aims to enable the student to develop a good understanding of the issues associated with methodologies used when developing computer-based information systems. The main purpose is to integrate technical, social and economic views of information systems development, which will aid the student in understanding the role of methodologies in the successful implementation of information systems. The textbook and lecture notes (if applicable) provide a comprehensive framework for students to assess information systems methodologies independent of any particular methodology or supplier.

Learning Outcomes

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and firm understanding of the concepts and issues involved with Information Systems Development Methodologies.

Indicative Assessment
  • Tutorial - Attendance is expected 10%
  • Assignment 20%
  • Final Examination (Closed Book, 3 hour) 70%
Workload

Teaching for this course is likely to be in the format of one 3 hour seminar per week; however, enrolment numbers may dictate that it be run differently. Students will also be expected to put in up to 7 hours of their own time outside of class focussing on individual research.
