Course Description

These courses are mainly for postgraduate and Honours students on an individual guidance basis.  Students may choose any relevant reading materials to their thesis and read them through with an instructor.  When there are a few students in class, the same reading materials may be chosen by them to read together in one class per week.  All classes are entirely conducted in Japanese.

 

Learning Outcomes This course draws on pre-modern, modern or contemporary materials, as appropriate with a view to developing students' research and bibliographic skills in advanced studies in the humanities and social sciences.
Indicative Assessment

Mid-term take-home examination (summary in Japanese; Japanese to English translation; comprehension questions; and Kanji reading) 40%; final take-home examination (summary in Japanese; Japanese to English translation; comprehension questions; and Kanji reading) 50%; and self-assessment 10%.

Workload Students can expect to spend 10 hours per week on this course inclusive of class contact hours.
Course Classification(s) AdvancedAdvanced courses are designed for students having reached 'first degree' level of assumed knowledge, which provide a deep understanding of contemporary issues; or 'second degree' and higher levels of knowledge; or for transition to research training programs.
