Course Description	Course Description/Objectives: The Course will review key elements of the Australian Federal System including: General principles of interpretation of the Commonwealth Constitution Governmental immunity in the Australian Federal system from laws enacted by the legislature of another Government The scope of some Commonwealth legislative powers: trade and commerce taxation corporations power external affairs implied national power Federal limits on Commonwealth executive power Federal aspects of Commonwealth spending powers Express and implied restrictions on Commonwealth and State legislative powers The objective of the course is to convey not only an understanding of the current state of authority on key issues in interpreting the Constitution, but also an understanding of the broad issues which affect the interpretation of the Constitution over time.
Indicative Assessment	Students must rely on the Approved Assessment which will be posted to the course homepage on the ANU Law website, prior to the commencement of the course.

Requisite Statement	Students who have completed an LLB prior to enrolling in the Program must have completed an undergraduate course in the principles of Constitutional Law. All other students must complete Introduction to Legal Reasoning and Research (non-lawyers); Fundamentals of Government and Commercial Law (non-lawyers).
