Course Description

Objectives

A student who has completed this course should:

  • know the elements of the Australian system of administrative law
  • understand the different roles of courts, tribunals and investigatory agencies
  • understand the basic principles of administrative review, particularly the criteria for central decision-making
  • understand major administrative law concepts, such as natural justice, legitimate expectation, merit review and judicial review
  • know the procedure for challenging an administrative decision, and administrative law remedies�
  • understand in broad terms the operation of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth); the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth); and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Act 1986.
