Course Description	This course will introduce students to topics of current interest, taking advantage of the expertise of visitors and staff. Note: Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but will be assessed separately.
Learning Outcomes	On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to: 1. Explain the fundamental concepts of a special topic in the mathematical sciences and its role in modern mathematics and applied contexts. 2. Demonstrate accurate and efficient use of specific techniques from the mathematical sciences. 3. Demonstrate capacity for mathematical reasoning through analysing, proving and explaining concepts from the mathematical sciences.
Indicative Assessment	Assessment is expected to be based on: Three assignments (worth 10% each; LO 1-3) Final examination (70%; LO 1-3)
