Course Description

This course provides an opportunity for participants to acquire and apply concepts and tools for the development of a new business venture. The course emphasises the development of business plans, product and service development and marketing. Other topics may include establishing market feasibility and strategies for developing corporate reputations.

Please note: this course is not offered onshore in 2010. Students wishing to take a course in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Planning may enrol in MGMT7184 Integrating Business Project A: Entrepreneurship and New Venture Planning.

Learning Outcomes By the end of this course students should: understand the theoretical frameworks and concepts which have been developed to exmplain entrepreneurial behaviour; learn to identify the characteristics of entrepreneurial people who operate in small and large organisations; gain practice at using various techniques for creating business oppurtunities; know how to prepare and present a business plan for a new venture; understand the sources of finance for new ventures and the ways large corporations and financial firms evaluate business plans and proposals for new ventures
Workload  6 x 4 hour class, 2x 8 hour class(not per week, entire term)
Course Classification(s) TransitionalTransitional courses are designed for students from a broad range of backgrounds and learning achievements, which provide for the acquisition of generic skills; or an informed understanding of contemporary issues; or fundamental knowledge for transition to Advanced or Specialist courses.

Eligibility At least an average of 65% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree.
