Course Description

The objective of this course is to prepare management graduates for monitoring global changes, interpreting their impact on the management of corporations and to reflect in an insightful way on the implications of these changes.  The course provides a framework for integrating global, corporate and personal perspectives. The course also looks at the changing global pressures acting on organisations and how they impact on organizational processes.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • interpret changes in the global environment with insight
  • relate what is happening in the global / external macro-environment to what is happening at the corporate level in organisations
  • translate the understanding gained from these into more effective and more satisfying performance as managers
Indicative Assessment

Group Global Crisis Presentation  30%; Final Examination 70%

 5 x 4 hour classes, 2x 8 hour classes

Eligibility

At least an average of 65% (or equivalent) in the final two years of an Australian undergraduate degree and a minimum of three years professional or managerial work experience.

Assumed Knowledge and
Required Skills

Although there are no formal prerequisites, this is a capstone course designed partly to provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on the subject matter covered elsewhere in their program and partly for them to consider the broader context within which their studies must be placed in order for them to be successful managers in the global economy. The course both provides closure to their formal studies and helps to prepare them for the ongoing management of their learning and their future careers.

Requisite Statement

This course is normally only available to students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Management, Master of Management, or Master of Business Administration degree programs.
